Interestingly, the Jaruga hydroelectric power plant (located at Skradinki buk) was the 1st such hydro power plant in Europe, and the 2nd in the world. It was set in operation on 28 August 1895, only three days after the 1st power plant was set in operation on the Niagara Falls.
National Park Krka, well known for its many lakes and waterfalls, is also characterized by exceptionally rich and varied flora and fauna. Eight hundred and sixty species and subspecies of plants have been identified within its territory. Furthermore, the total of 221 bird species has been recorded in the Park's area, among which the largest number are nesting birds. This area is ornithologically among the most valuable regions of Europe as many migratory birds inhabit the park area during the spring and autumn migrations.
The area abounds in the traces of the ancient settlements and there are many cultural and historical monuments found within.
